Loving Kindness....

Looking at the world today and controversial happenings around us, it sadden my heart. I have been doing lots of thinking lately. I have been contemplating how should I conduct myself in time of adversities? Sentient Beings are sufferings, more so now. As we progress, our defilement increase. The greed in us is never ending. Even finding solace in religion is not like meeting the eye. I than realized Buddha's teaching...he told us to look within our self. We walk the path with his guidance and yet being human, we try to see if we can find the shortest and fastest way to anything we fancy. We challenged Buddha's teaching to see if there is any shortcut. We know pitfalls and yet we want to try hoping that it is not quicksand but there goes a wise saying - If you go up the mountain too many times, you will soon meet a tiger.

For now, for myself and others, I leave here a Loving Kindness Prayer. It is a translation of Karaniya Metta Sutta. May this prayer increases the compassion and loving kindness in our hearts. May this see us through the darkness of reality and dreams, true and fake... they are all but an illusion, just like a magician conjured up right in front of our eyes - do you ever wonder "is it real?". Therefore, may those who lay their eyes on the Sutra finds peace, loving kindness and compassion for themselves and others.

Loving Kindness Prayer

This is to be done by one skilled in aims
who wants to break through to the state of peace
Be capable, upright, and straightforward,
easy to instruct, gentle, and not conceited,
content and easy to support,
with few duties, living lightly,
with peaceful faculties, masterful,
modest, and no greed for supporters.

Do not do the slightest thing
that the wise would later censure.

Think - Happy, at rest,
may all beings be happy at heart.
Whatever beings there may be,
weak or strong, without exception,
long, large,
middling, short,
subtle, blatant,
seen and unseen,
near and far,
born and seeking birth
May all beings be happy at heart.

Let no one deceive another
or despise anyone anywhere,
or through anger or irritation
wish for another to suffer.
As a mother would risk her life
to protect her child, her only child,
even so should one cultivate a limitless heart
with regard to all beings.
With good will for the entire cosmos,
cultivate a limitless heart.
Above, below, and all around,
unobstructed, without enmity or hate.
Whether standing, walking,
sitting, or lying down,
as long as one is alert,
one should be resolved on this mindfulness.
This is called a sublime abiding
here and now.

Not taken with views,
but virtuous and consummate in vision,
having subdued desire for sensual pleasures,
one never again
will lie in the womb.

  1. I take the belief:

    to accept with
serenity the things that cannot be changed,
courage to change the things which should be changed, and the
wisdom to distinguish the one from the other

and nowadays, I take the Wisdom part seriously and practice the wisdom more and ask myself what is the point of getting all upset and work-up for something which I cannot change?? Is it worth the heartaches and even the unhappy thoughts which will plant unhappy seeds?

    Just my thoughts.

  2. As Avalokitesvara left her tear drop in Samsara out of compassion for the sufferings, I am feeling same. I am not trying to change anything, who can meddle with Karma? I just send out my energy for the well being of all Beings irregradless of mine.

I am also not concern with happy seeds and unhappy seeds...there is no seeds if I see the Truth. I am working on that.

Hope you achieve your practice successfully.
